MECONTROL Air has strong advantages in the application of gas flows with low and high particle contamination. The use of MECONTROL Air is very easy since there are no optical openings or pressure measurement sensors, or any movable parts which are exposed to the gas flow. The main applications are power stations with coal firing as well as cement plants. The sensor can even be used in very high temperatures. There are various types of materials and alloys to cope with high temperatures and high abrasion. For temperatures up to a 1000°C (1800°F) PROMECON offers easy to replace sensor tips. Since the system needs no calibration, a replacement by the customer is easily done. 

The accuracy of the measurement is not affected by distorted flow profiles since the sensor averages the velocity over the entire cross sectional area of the duct. Therefore, (in contrast to conventional D-pressure measurements) the accuracy is not affected by the degree of turbulence of the gas flow.

MECONTROL UBC is an extremely robust heavy duty online measurement system for the measurement of unburned carbon in the fly ash.

The simple mechanical configuration makes it possible for in-situ measurement of bulk fly ash. No fly ash sample is taken, but is measured inside the ash hopper. The repeatability of the measurement is extremely high and measurement cycles are very short (2 to 10 minutes). This short sampling time can be achieved since the system is used after the precipitator and not in the flue gas duct where the collection of fly ash is extremely difficult. This system becomes an ideal optimization tool for the combustion process. Changes in mill or boiler performance as well as changes in the fuel can easily be registered. Our accuracy has convinced all of our customers, and is unrivalled in online measurement of unburned carbon. The comparison between laboratory analysis and our system is done directly with samples taken out of the sensor, which subsequently are analyzed for loss on ignition (LOI) or total organic compound TOC / TC. The final calibration of the sensor is performed using these values.
