As a result of these measuring methods, it is important to pay attention to certain features of portable flue gas analyzers:

• They utilize fuel cells which, like a battery, only last a certain time including shelf life, then must be replaced and recalibrated. Those cells are slowly, steadily declining their output linearly, and must be re-zeroed before each use.
  
• They must be recalibrated for a new zero every time they are used due to the above mentioned deteriorating life, and that zero calibration must be done at ambient conditions where air is clear of CO, etc., Do not zero near the flue gas measurement area.
  
• Because they measure flue gas after moisture is removed, they are a “dry” analyzer. When compared to a “wet” analyzer, such as a zirconium oxide insitu continuous oxygen analyzer which measures oxygen in flue gas without removing moisture, there will be a 1 to 2 % difference in Oxygen reading depending on how much moisture is present.

Testo Model 350 Portable Flue Gas Analyzer

This analyzer is designed with emissions testing in mind.

• It can handle a maximum of four (350M) or six (350 XL) sensors.
• It comes with a separate control unit housing a Peltier Chiller to remove water from the sample, and many other features. There is an electric cable between control unit and handheld, and a hose between the handheld and the probe.
